Every time I think I have found every excuse to think John Schneider is awesome...

...He goes and does something else terrific.  As a mom myself now, it is sometimes very difficult to be a role model.  You have your child's little eyes and ears watching everything you do. With that kind of constant scrutiny it can  seem hard to measure up sometimes. But I am reinvigorated to keep up the good fight by my childhood idle when I see him 'leading by example'. I think of it as a little motivational gift for the sometimes thankless and glamorless, but most important job, of being a parent. Proud to be a fan...John Schneider at the LA Mission - http://bit.ly/ibeuGv #ireport

Submitted for Your Approval: Emmy Nomination for John Schneider

Primetime Emmy Award:
Outstanding Guest Supporting Actor
2010 Nominee:  John Schneider as Jonathan Kent on Smallville

Okay…I admit it; I’m a John Schneider fan.  But, it doesn’t take a fan of John Schneider to see that his performance on the season opener of Smallville was a great performance.  And it wasn’t the first great performance by John Schneider on Smallville.  As a life-long fan of Mr. Schneider’s work, I was ecstatic to see that he was finally given a role where he could flex his acting muscle. Granted I realize that John Schneider is not Bo Duke, but he made the southern, hard-driving Romeo look so easy that most of the world still thinks that he was born and bred in southern Georgia.  Other extremely talented, seasoned performers like James Best, Denver Pyle and Sorrell Booke received no credit for the solid performances they delivered week after week on the Dukes of Hazzard so it is no surprise to me that John Schneider was over-looked as an actor and seen only as a pretty face.  I have no delusions about the world giving him any credit for the skill he developed on the Dukes, but to ignore his ability to bring to life the incredible scripting of Jonathan Kent is just plain stubborn.
I grew up with Christopher Reeve as Superman, saw George Reeves play the Man of Steel on reruns and was the first person to say what a mistake Smallville was going to be.  I wasn’t interested in the story of Clark Kent before Superman had his powers.  How could that be interesting or even matter?  Thankfully for me, with John Schneider in the cast, I could not stay away.  I’m so glad I didn’t.  Not only does Tom Welling solidly add his name to Superman franchise but the core of the story is not just how Clark Kent becomes Superman, but what in his life made him the man who would be Superman. The what—or who—are his adopted parents. Mainly, Clark Kent’s relationship with his dad, Jonathan Kent, is the entire reason why he is the world’s hero and not a super villain.
All Jorel gave Superman were genes and a planet that would make him safe, super human, as he grew up without his biological parents.  What Jonathan Kent gave Superman was a conscience and a sense of duty.  Trying to teach a son such lofty ideals is hard enough in the real world, try making it believable and entertaining on television.  Well, that is exactly what John Schneider did.  He took words that would seem corny and sappy and made them true and honest.  He delivered them with such simple elegance that most people watching the show wish Jonathan Kent were their father.
Smallville’s creators know this, with Lazarus they made us wait until nearly the end of the episode to get what some long lost Smallville fans have been waiting for: the show’s heart (pun intended). In one scene the emotional center of the show was restored.  Good acting doesn’t require a mental breakdown or wrist to forehead preening, but a delivery that is so simple and quiet that you forget for one moment that you live in a world where Superman doesn’t really exist and Jonathan Kent isn’t back on the farm tending a broken fence.
If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you go to CWTV and check out Smallville: Lazarus.  John, I can't wait to see what you do next.
Signed,
Fan For Life

Dukes in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

In my Dukes of Hazzard/Star Wars Fantasy, my first step was to identify who is who.  Now that that is done, here are my pictures of the cast of players.

  • I love this picture, lol.  Now if I could just convince John Schneider to go as a Jedi Knight for Halloween and post it on the internet :).

The Dukes Ride Again on CMT

Now that the Dukes of Hazzard is back in syndication, I can see the entire cast and yes get my John Schneider fix, Yee Haa!

I can't believe I didn't find this earlier but there is this hilarious drinking game based on the Dukes. I recommend it, lol.  Just remember to use virgin drinks if you don't drink and don't ever drive afterwards.  Please check it out @ http://www.freewebs.com/hazzardcounty/.

See y'all later. Yee haa!

My Car Wars Fantasy

Alright, Alright...

I know it sounds crazy but it was bound to happen sooner or later, my Star Wars and Dukes of Hazzard obsessions have finally collided. I don't know how it happened. Maybe Celebration V took place too close to the CMT the Dukes Ride Again marathon but my brain has combined the two franchises. The more I think about it I suspect that Gy Waldron, the creator of the Dukes of Hazzard television show, was a closet Star Wars fan. Both take place far, far away and let's be honest, most people think the South is in another galaxy. The similarities don't stop there.

For a peek into my psyche take a look below:
  1. I have always thought of the fair-haired farmboy, Bo Duke, as a combination of Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian.
  2. Uncle Jesse is definately a synthesis of Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda.
  3. Luke Duke is Han Solo, since Luke Skywalker's best buddy after R2-D2 is Han Solo and for Bo that was Luke.
  4. Chewbacca, Han's faithful buddy and master mechanic for the Millenium Falcon would of course be played by Cooter Davenport, master mechanic for the General Lee.
  5. The Millenium Falcon, the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is played by none other than the General Lee, the fastest hunk of junk in Hazzard also known to fly through the air at near light speed.
  6. Princess Leia in her skimpy, slave girl suit is given a run for her money by Daisy Duke and her world-famous shorts.
  7. Princess Leia has her ship and Daisy has Dixie.
  8. The Rebel alliance has a symbol and the Dukes have the Rebel Flag.
  9. Luke has an alternate weapon, a lightsaber and the Dukes don't use guns they prefer their alternate the Bow and Arrow.
  10. The Jedi have their temple and the Duke's have their farm.

Now on the Dark side things get a little more convoluted.
  1. I can't quite decide if Boss Hogg is the Emperor, Jabba the Hut or some amalgam of the two.
  2. That makes Rosco P. Coltrane a goofy version of Darth Vader and/or Bobba Fett and not quite as effective.
  3. Rosco could also be a Storm Trooper.
  4. The Clone Troopers were actual good guys that were genetically altered to do what they are ordered and that's a pretty good description of Enos Strate.
  5. The Droids, which are not very smart, have an earthly cousin in Cletus Hogg. Boss Hogg's not so smart cousin.

  6. Hughie Hogg, the evil nephew of Boss Hogg, could be either Count Dooku or General Grievous.

  7. The Emperor has the DeathStar and Boss Hogg has the Boar's Nest.

Now that you've seen a peak into my brain, let me know what you think and stay tuned for the movie to be posted here, soon!
